Kirtan Kids with Jai Uttal
2 pm-3:15 pm KIRTAN KIDS SONGS AND STORIES at Silver Spring's Willow Street Yoga is an invitation for children and parents to sing, laugh, dance and celebrate life together. This mix of such playful stories as the Elephant, the Monkey and the Little Butter Thief and simple, back-and-forth chants in Sanskrit and English will open our hearts to the mysteries, miracles and love that surround us.
Grammy-nominated JAI UTTAL is a pioneer in the world music community with his eclectic "East meets West" sound. A childhood in New York City's music scene gave way to studies with the legendary musician Ravi Shankar and pilgrimages to India, singing ancient call-and-response kirtan in the temples of the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba. He now makes music to unite hearts and cultures and bring peace. Originating in devotional Bhakti yoga, his concerts of kirtan create spiritual connection and compassionate community for young and old. His recordings include "Queen of Hearts", "Kirtan Kids", "Shiva Station" and "Mondo Rama".
An Evening Kirtan will take place beginning at 7:30 pm at St John's Episcopal Church Norwood, the home of the Oneness-Family School in Chevy Chase, Md. A combination ticket option is offered for both events and other Jai Uttal Evening event ticket options can be found here on Brown Paper Tickets (http://jaiuttalevening.bpt.me).
Presented by Grace Productions and Willow Street Yoga in partnership with Circle Yoga, Lil Omm Yoga and the Oneness-Family School to nourish the well-being of children and their families.
